What is an abdominal aortic duplex?

An Abdominal aortic duplex is an ultrasound image of your abdominal aorta, your main artery in
the abdomen and the iliac arteries.

What to expect?

The Technologist will place a clear gel on your abdomen and scan your abdomen with a
transducer that will show pictures of your abdominal aorta, main artery in the abdomen and the
iliac arteries.

How do I prepare?

In order to prevent bowel gas from accumulating and obscuring the images please make sure not
to eat or drink after midnight prior to your scheduled appointment. We request that you refrain
from chewing gum the day or your test, only take sips of water with your medication and to also
arrive 15 mins prior to your appointment.
